Its been the mid-year holidays, these past two weeks, however I haven’t had any actual holiday!

The first week was another singing boot camp, to put it in a nutshell… and the second was solely occupied with sleep-catching-up and working on internals (which are like projects/assessments). Grrr I even missed going skiing and my friend’s ‘game day’, due to my bedroom occupation.

And these internals are so stupid! In Chemistry, I had to spend a whole day in the lab last term just doing titrations. Then I have had to write up about it. It of course being: The Vitamin C concentration in Grapefruit Juice at different temperatures… BORING! I’m definately not going to be doing any science related courses at uni. And then there’s the music internal, in which I had to arrange two pieces of music. Now, unlike the instrumentation I had to do last year, arrangement involves composing counter-melodies and much further developement. And for all my love of music, I haven’t yet figured out how to spur on the musical creation process. Composing music, my brain has decided, is like a fine wine that only matures after a LOOOONG time. So that has been rather hard to get a move on with as well. And then there’s the beloved (not) Classics essay on Greek Vase Paintings. Escuse me for a moment while I have a quick snooze.

So yeah, I wish I could have my holidays back, now that I actually could make good use of them. Or at least have only minimal amounts of homework, such as colouring in a title page or doing a bullet-point summary of the old Greek artwork.

Life just isn’t fair.

No laughing matter

I had a really intense day today, doing chemistry titrations from 8:40am til 2:30pm! So I think a bit of humour would be appropriate…

Three men who were lost in the forest were captured by cannibals. The cannibal king told the prisoners that they could live if they pass a trial. The first step of the trial was to go to the forest and get ten pieces of the same kind of fruit. So all three men went separate ways to gather fruits.
The first guy came back and said to the king, “I brought ten apples.” The king then explained the trial to him. “You have to shove the fruits up your butt without any expression on your face or you’ll be eaten.”
The first apple went in… but on the second one he winced out in pain, so he was killed.
The second guy arrived and showed the king ten berries. When the king explained the trial to him he thought to himself that this should be easy. 1…2…3…4…5…6…7…8… and on the ninth berry he burst out in laughter and was killed.
The first guy and the second guy met in heaven. The first one asked, “Why did you laugh, you almost got away with it?” The second one replied, “I couldn’t help it - I saw the third guy coming with pineapples!!”

FBI agents conducted a raid of a psychiatric hospital in San Francisco that was under investigation for medical insurance fraud. After hours of reviewing thousands of medical records, the group of agents got quite hungry. The FBI was taping all conversations at the hospital, this is what was recorded when the agent in charge called a nearby pizza delivery service to order.

Agent: Hello. I would like to order 20 large pizzas and 70 cans of coke.

Pizza Man: And where would you like them delivered?

Agent: To the psychiatric hospital please.

Pizza Man: The psychiatric hospital?

Agent: That’s right. I’m an FBI agent.

Pizza Man: You’re an FBI agent?

Agent: That’s correct. Just about everybody here is.

Pizza Man: And you’re at the psychiatric hospital?

Agent: That’s correct. And make sure you don’t go through the front doors. We have them locked. You will have to go around to the back to the service entrance to deliver the pizzas.

Pizza Man: And you say you’re all FBI agents??

Agent: That’s right. How soon can you have them here?

Pizza Man: And everyone at the psychiatric hospital is an FBI agent??

Agent: That’s right. We’ve been here all day and we’re starving.

Pizza Man: How are you going to pay for all of this?

Agent: I have my checkbook right here.

Pizza Man: And you’re all FBI agents???

Agent: (Slightly annoyed) That’s right. Everyone here is an FBI agent. Can you remember to bring the pizzas and drinks to the service entrance in the rear? We have the front doors locked.

Pizza Man: I don’t think so. *hangs up*

That twilight thing?

Okay, I’m not a crazy(!) Twilight Saga fan, but I do love the books, especially #1-Twilight and #4-Breaking Dawn.

I was quite disappointed by the Twilight movie however, as they had to cut out and change a lot of the book, as well as using Robert Pattinson as Edward??? Puh-leez he is so NOT hot at all! I don’t know why he’s suddenly become “every girl’s dream guy”. The Edward I imagined while reading looks nothing like him. Emmett could have been even huger/scarier, and Rosalie wasn’t quite right either. But I did think that Charlie, Carlisle, Esme, Alice, and Jasper were cast fine. Alice in particular looks exactly how I imagined, complete with pixie hair.

Taylor Lautner as Jacob is perfect! He is so cute in Twilight, and from what I’ve seen of the New Moon movie so far, its gonna be his big break. And since he had to muscle-up for the part, he just looks better and better! There’s even photographic proof of his absolute hotness:

Yeah, I’m looking forward to New Moon’s release. Just a lil. Especially since there will (hopefully) be a lot more Jacob and less Edward. Don’t get me wrong, in the books Edward is dreamy, but in Hollywood Jacob Black takes the cake. Go Taylor!

Food for thought

The perfect winter lunch has got to be hot soup with homemade bread. Plain, simple, and warming to the core. I had a particularly delicious chunky mushroom soup with a variety of breads at my church’s shared lunch earlier today. With mushroom, tomato and pumpkin soups to choose from, as well as mountains of different doughs, the food was plentiful. Nearly everyone stayed back after the service to fellowship over the meal. Conversation in my group ranged from cars (straight over my head) to Stagechallenge, the toddlers to different ways of eating Shrewsbury biscuits. There has recently been an advertisment on tv in which a little boy manages to twist a Shrewsbury apart, with the jam-my inside split equally onto both biscuit halves. I think its a complete Fake, including the capital F. Three of us tried, with a total of 7 biscuits, and not one twisted, let alone split equally! Pfft advertising… It was such a copy of the Oreo ad anyway – “First you twist it, then you dunk it, then you eat it!” which had the boy and his dog “Mum says chocolate isn’t good for dogs, but you can have my milk”. Now that’s classic advertising, seeing as I remembered the whole script despite the Oreo ad being on tv yonks ago. Oreos did not make a presence amoung the assorted biscuits at lunch today though. Ah well, the Shrewsburys and the soup were quite enough.

And on second thoughts, this really is just about food.

I find that its always hard to think of something witty when actually asked to. The clever words only emerge into my conciousness when, as per Murphy’s Law, I have no chance of writing them down. Ah well, c’est la vie, I guess.

Anyways, I have no real intention of making this a serious blog, at least not at the moment. It will really just be a bit of a procrastination-aide. For what better to occupy time best spent doing other things, than writing to the entire world how bored you really are … Which I am. Although not so much bored as tired. So I believe signing off will be quite appropriate for now.
